Reading
Within The Beeches and The Willows we encourage daily individual reading and whole class teacher lead reading. Those children who are engaging in phonics lessons and interventions are supported with their reading using the Little Wandle Phonics Scheme, supported by Big Cats Reading Scheme. For those children who no longer require phonics, interventions are assessed and access Renaissance Accelerated Reader, whereby they not only read daily but also take part in weekly assessments to assess their comprehensive understanding of a wide range of both fiction and non- fiction texts.
Reading Lessons:
Teachers plan and implement a range of reading opportunities throughout the year to allow children to further widen their reading experiences. Lessons focus on key areas of knowledge and development linked to the National Curriculum.
Phonics
Children in year 1 receive daily phonics lessons using Little Wandle (a government approved SSP scheme). This is delivered over and above daily Reading and Literacy lessons. Children in Years 2, 3, and 4, who require additional phonics boosters, also receive personalised daily phonics interventions using Little Wandle. Those within Years 5 and 6 will access Little Wandle Rapid Catch up 7 + Scheme to support any Phonics required.
